Meet Some Staff

Marisa Barbieri

Marisa is the founder of The 1Life Project.  An engineer by training (Brooklyn Polytechnic, NYU Tandon School of Engineering, MSc), Marisa has developed several software solutions for both the private and public sectors.  Working on IBM’s first AI tool and implementing solutions around the world, Marisa has pioneered software on the cutting edge of technology.

Conley Ernst

Conley is a senior at the University of Rochester studying Computer Science and Digital Media Studies. She has worked at software companies including Drift Inc. and Shareaholic, were she has been able to work on both full stack engineering and UX/UI projects. Conley enjoys working on both front-end and back-end projects, and enjoys working on several independent projects at a time. Outside of the classroom she enjoys developing video games, kickboxing, and going to farmers markets.

James Fazio

James is a recent Computer Science graduate from the University of Rochester. He has worked on a number of projects throughout his young career, including web applications, SQL database formation, computer program development, and HTML 5 game development. He plans to continue his engineering efforts through work on the 1Life Project and personal projects of his own.

Patrick Ferner

Patrick is a senior at the University of Rochester studying Computer Science. He has worked as a software engineer intern at Flatiron Health. He is very interested in back end development and loves working on independent projects. Patrick also enjoys playing the trumpet, traveling, and playing video games.

Jordy Guntur

Jordy has worked as an analyst at Credit Suisse developing software for the Global Credit Products and Predictive Analytics teams. He was a full-stack developer for a psychiatry team working directly with the New York Giants, founded his own development company, co-founded his university’s’ eSports team and has been a teaching assistant for 7 Computer Science courses at the University of Rochester.  Jordy  is completing his senior year and outside of work, he enjoys snowboarding, long-boarding and power-lifting.

James Kong

James is a Computer Science major from New York University. He’s primarily interested in working with large data sets. Projects that he is proud of involve web development and SQL database creation and manipulation. His goal is to aid the 1Life Project’s mission while applying and refining his programming skills.


Karam Lyons

Karam is a senior at New York University studying Computer Science. He is interested in front-end web/mobile development, primarily using react.js and react-native. Some projects he’s proud of are a dynamic memory allocator written in C, a process scheduler written in java, and a matrix multiplication program also written in java.

Julia McDonald

Julia will be aiding 1Life in creating algorithms to detect patterns in opioid use across the country.  She is currently studying at Wellesley College and majoring in mathematics and computer science. Her primary area of interest is in developing artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms for social good.   She hopes to go on to earn a PhD in computer science.  Julia is also an avid reader, runner, and pianist.

Louisa Smith

Louisa joined the 1Life Project in 2017 after working as a Project Manager at Hopsie Inc, a web design company for nonprofits. In her young career, she has supported the launch of many nonprofit websites including Friends of UNFPA, EdCorps, ICM, CCIH, Pen Faulkner and more.  She currently works with the 1Life Project, helping maintain the social media pages and website.
